| Our company started running this project in August 2004. We first implemented a testing line in Beijing before our company signed the agreement with the Beijing Public Transport Holdings Ltd. After one year testing, proving our system is very stable, we signed a cooperation agreement with the Beijing Public Transport Holdings Ltd in 2005. According to the agreement, our company has to complete no less than 6000 DBSK installation, 517 bus routes and 24000 buses are involved. Our company has installed more than 300 DBSK in the busy areas in Beijing so far, such as the Changan Avenue as well as Wangjing district, also equipped more than 80 buses with on-board units.
Real time bus arrival information forecast Passengers are able to get information via the LED display that we equipped in DBSK, the information includes bus route number, the location of the next bus as well as how long before the next bus will arrive to the bus stop. This kind of functions will help the passengers to alleviate anxiety while they are waiting.
General Information Notification The other LED display equipped in DBSK is used for releasing text public information, such as news bulletin, traffic flow information and so on. It can be also used for government to releasing f information like governmental and public announcements.
Voice guidance for visually impaired. For this subsystem, visually impaired people need to carry a hand receiver, when they are passing by a bus stop, they can receive real-time audio information related to bus arrival time and other public information. It will help visually impaired people to involve to the society more easily.
There are 22000 buses on ground under daily operation, involving 730 bus routes, 128000 first departures daily, 40% of on ground traffic flow occupied by public transport. There are similarities with London’s traffic environment and the environment this system operates in : the central are is the busiest area in the city, with varying road conditions, ever increasing private vehicles, causing the traffic flow are to be even heavier, with 90% road saturation.
For example: the commissioning line No.420 in Beijing. The length of the bus route is 23.75 km, this bus route launches from Beijing railway station to Wangjing technology district and the round trip has 68 bus stops( please see the attached file). This bus route goes through a variety of different types of area with different traffic conditions including the, Central business district, the main shopping and tourism areas, residential areas and industrial area, the main transport arteries and the major railway station. The bus operating time is from 6:30am to 22:30pm, every 10 mins launch a bus. This commissioning line has been tested since 2004, up to now, according to the daily, weekly, and monthly inspection reports, the mean error occurred rate is less than 1.2 mins, even in a miserable weather condition, the mean error occurred rate is less than 1.3 mins. 71% the bus stop reported the mean error occurred rate is less than 1 min. above all, after more than 1 year constantly testing, proving that this system is stable.
